Five Tonkin & Taylor people were recognised at investiture ceremonies for people named in the 2013 New Year honours lists.  The Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, presented insignia to four Tonkin & Taylor geotechnical engineers, and the Board Chairman at the investiture ceremonies at Government House in Wellington and Auckland in May.

New Year honours have recognised the contributions of engineers Nick Rogers, Dr Sjoerd Van Ballegooy, Mike Jacka and Kate Williams for their work with the Government and EQC, and commitment to communities following the Canterbury earthquakes.

In the February edition of ‘Local Government Magazine’, Tonkin & Taylor prepared an article titled ‘Darfield earthquake – The Engineering Response & GIS’.

The earthquake event that rudely woke the residents of Canterbury and surrounding areas at 4:36am on September 4, 2010 was an event of extreme contradictions. Miraculously, for an event of this scale – a magnitude 7.1, centred 40km west of Christchurch City and at a depth of 11km – no loss of life was directly attributed to the event. Read more
